Albert Brown, according to Rowland (p.154), was a foreman at the Davis & Jordan quarry when the Civil War began. He volunteered for Union military service, and was elected captain of his volunteer regiment in 1861.

In 1871, Brown was the Santa Cruz town clerk named in the women's suffrage lawsuit pursued by Ellen Van Valkenburg.
