John J. Hug (1848-1896) was a druggist who bought a house on Green Street in the mid-1880s, adding to it and then reselling in the 1890s. Hug was the second husband of Agnes "Anna" (1843-1936), widow of Otto Broger (both born in Germany), who established the Santa Cruz business where John worked. That Pacific Avenue business was later owned by Sylvester Palmer.
