There have been many road name changes in Santa Cruz County history. Many roads received official names for the first time in 1866, with publication of the “Map of the Town of Santa Cruz” (Santa Cruz Sentinel, Jun 23, 1866, 2:4).

  • Arcan Street - named for Arcan, John B.. The 1866 map renamed the 2-blocks Bridge Street. Now the 2 blocks of Soquel Avenue west of the river/bridge.

River, Potrero (the northern half is now Evergreen), High, Water, Mission, Union, Green, Cross, and Rincon. Extension/completion of Cedar (Vine), Center, and Chestnut streets in the 1960s.
