Peter Lassen (1800-1859), was a Danish immigrant blacksmith who became the namesake of Lassen County, California. He came to the Santa Cruz area briefly in 1841, to aid in construction of metalwork for Isaac Graham's first sawmill (on Zayante Creek). In Santa Cruz: The Early Years (1980 book), Rowland claimed that it was the first sawmill in California.
