Ben Lomond is an unincorporated community, situated on the San Lorenzo River, north of Santa Cruz on Highway 9, which is the main through street. Two bridges carry the highway across the San Lorenzo River on both ends of town, as the river loops around. The town was originally called Pacific Mills, after the lumber milling company that established the settlement. Tributary Love Creek enters the San Lorenzo River at Ben Lomond.
