Lorenzo Asisara was born at Mission Santa Cruz in either 1819 or 1820, where his parents were neophytes. Later in life he gave three interviews that are the best first-person accounts we have of neophyte life in the missions. The first two interviews were in 1877 with Thomas Savage, a researcher for historian H. H. Bancroft. The third interview was in 1890 with Santa Cruz historian E. L. Williams. All three interviews can be found together only in Santa Cruz County History Journal Number 5.
