Richard Cornelius Kirby (1818-1904), a native of England, came to Santa Cruz in 1847, becoming a tanner. In 1852, he married Georgiana Bruce. He was shown as a property owner ("residence") on the 1866 Santa Cruz map, in "Block No. 3" (Mission Street). He and son Richard B. belonged to the Society of Pioneers.
