William Thompson came to Santa Cruz before 1850, building a house on the corner of Mission Street and the mission plaza. "Heirs of Thompson" was shown as a property owner on the 1866 Santa Cruz map, in "Block No. 1" (Mission Hill) of the core downtown area.
